Two words best describes Iloilo City these days: LIVE and INVEST. There is no doubt that this bustling metropolis outside of Luzon is making a spark and a name as the next center of investments, economic affluence and developments, a city of opportunity shaping the future of Western Visayas – Iloilo City.
Named after the nose-shaped river, “Irong-irong,” a Hiligaynon term which later became Yiloilo (as pronounced by the Europeans during the Spanish colonization period) and settled for its modern name Iloilo. A meeting point for international culture, trade and industry during the Spanish and American period in the Philippines, Iloilo is synonymous for its flourishing textile industry and ultimately instrumental in giving birth to the prosperous sugar industry of Negros through its rich elite capitalists in the olden days. It has cemented its claim as the irreplaceable “Queen City of the South,” the only city with such title in the archipelago given by Spain’s Ma. Christina as the Spanish crown’s “most loyal city” and popularized by its influential economic clout in the late 18th century and 19th century.

Iloilo is synonymous for its sweet and culture-loving people – the Ilonggos, whose passion transcends great resiliency, valor, artistry, optimism and spiritual devotion. Proofs of the city’s intact religious-cultural legacy are the existence ancestral houses, old churches, oldest business district – the Calle Real, age-old Hablon weaving industry, colorful festivals, beautiful clean river and mouth-watering delicacies like Batchoy and Biscocho that define Iloilo as a convergence of eco-cultural-culinary tourism destination incomparable to any other cities in the Philippines.

Today, Iloilo City is shedding another side of its eloquence and splendor – its newfound fame as the next vibrant investment and economic prominence creating a synergistic image of globalization, bridging its past glory and its present rise. Life in Iloilo is simple, serene, healthy and stress-free due to its old-world charm, a clean river creating ecological harmony and well-managed urban planning – envisioning a balance between developments and environmental preservation. Investment potential of the city is surging high due to its business-friendly and global perspective programmes, planning and visionary effort between public and private partnership, strong leaders working with its people to pursue the goal of fast-forward thinking and prosperity without neglecting the city’s cultural and ecological resources.

What makes metropolises exciting to visit and teeming with recreation is the existence of various shopping malls. Embedded in the notion of most Filipinos is the concept of shopping malls as the oasis of relaxation and a place to enjoy. The culture of “malling” has long been etched in the mindset of a typical Filipino mentality for the past decades. Since Iloilo City is on its way to take the spotlight as the next “wave city” and economic center in the Visayas with influx of investments, “malling culture” and the lifestyle sensation its brings to Ilonggos is once again heightened with the anticipated opening of another world-class shopping center – the Festive Walk Mall. Rising in the heart of Iloilo Business Park, the 72-hectare business township developed by Megaworld in Mandurriao, Iloilo City, Festive Walk Mall has two phases of leasable areas such as Festive Walk 2B-1 with 2,666 square meters and Festive Walk 2B-2 with 1,923 square meters. For leisure lovers and movie enthusiasts, there will be 8 world-class standard cinemas set to open in the mall. A classy food court, a selection of first-class bistros and restaurants, and spacious events center will complete the lifestyle mall expected to have its soft opening in the fourth quarter of 2016. Beside the Mall Annex, another landmark leisure destination will open with great anticipation – the Street of Festive Walk, a 1.1-kilometer shop-and-dine strip, the longest in the country so far. The name of the highly-anticipated mall, inspired by the “festive” cultural vibrancy of Iloilo’s world-class Dinagyang and Paraw Regatta Festivals, is a stunning depiction of Ilonggos’ passion for leisure, shopping and love for gastronomy rising in the middle of a sparkling business township of opportunities and commercial epicenter. The mall is a just a few steps away from the residential district which will become the home of a privileged few residents in One Madison Place, Lafayette Park Square and The Palladium, condominium towers with unique facets of lifestyle concept. The prestigious lifestyle mall is surrounded and adjacent to Richmonde Hotel Iloilo, BPO buildings One Global Center and Two Global Center, the biggest McDonald’s in Panay Island, and a few steps away from the Iloilo Convention Center and soon-to-rise Courtyard by Marriot Hotel.
